So This Is What I Was Missing

She glanced around, closed her eyes

Pondered the last 7 months of her life

The only thought that escaped her mind

Was when did it happen, at what point in time

Did the peace arrive on the face of her child

When did her frowns dissipate to reveal the joy in her smile

At what point did homelessness leave her description

When did the Gospel truth become her prescription

No longer overlooked, or shunned by eyes dismissive

She whispered to her soul, so this is what I was missing.

With her child as her purpose, and ending homelessness her mission

She left her former ways to gain a new disposition

With her child safe and healthy, and her spirit’s lifting

A renewed life called her by name, and framed her distance

From every old way that tried to call her name

She knew her life was meant for more, and her identity had changed

No longer does her child scream in anger or rage

No more tears from hunger or fears of the people they would have to engage

She was free and so was her kid

There was true life erupting and a reason to live

She no longer considered what it would be like if she gave up

Because now she knows what life is like when your provision is like an overflowing cup

So this is what I was missing, she says deep in her soul

As she notices internal and external success with each achieved goal

She sees her life and family through a brand new scope
